Altering a vintage wedding dress?
Wear a dress I'm thinking of my girlfriend's grandmother's wedding. Some minor alterations are necessary since it had a bigger chest and small arms than me. Does anyone know of a reliable place for alterations throughout the West to central Oklahoma. The dress is well cared for silk brocade.
The best way to find a qualified seamstress is going to a fabric store and ask the ladies at the counter cutting if they can recommend someone who can help. Avoid dry cleaning sewers. Despite that good at hemming and other disorders, do not specialize, and are likely to have experience the inheritance of reconstruction. Ask each if they know a seamstress and you are bound to find someone to bust and let the arms out or add reinforcements under armcye. If you can not find someone local, you may need to expand your search to the nearest town. If the dress needs to be cleaned, please do so before taking your seamstress. Sometimes, old clothes fall apart when cleaned and the last thing I want to do is take and pay for this dress to be altered and that it destroyed during the dry cleaning process. Better know what you have to work before the alterations, so you have the dress professionally dry cleaning, right?
